CONVERTING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE INTO

COLLEGE ACADEMIC CREDIT

The Experiential Learning Program (ELP) is the process whereby students can potentially earn college credit for what they have already learned through experience. ELP is an acceleration mechanism that assists students to graduate more quickly, but there is no guarantee of successful assessment of prior learning.

Step One: Become a Criminal Justice Degree-seeking student at St. Petersburg College

  1. Become an SPC student: application found online at http://www.spcollege.edu. Click on Prospective Student, then click on the first choice: Online Application to St. Petersburg College. Fill out the application as a "degree-seeking, Associate in Arts, Criminal Justice (CRMJU) student and submit the $35 fee online. (The College needs to know who you are before the ELP process can begin.)
  2. Talk to your advisor listed above for guidance on credits or MCTFT manager for information on courses.

Step Two: Become a participant in the ELP process

  1. Use the email address above to contact Rose Miglino for an ELP application. Complete the "Experiential Learning Assessment" application, being sure to state the Course Number from the list below you plan to use for credit. You do not need to attend all the correlating MCTFT courses, but use the list as a guide.
  2. Once the ELP application and processing fee is received by Rose, she will mail you the package to begin your portfolio. You will be provided a faculty member to assist you in the process, specifically to assess your completed portfolio.
  3. Once your portfolio is complete and submitted with the college fee of $25 per credit, you will be notified by mail as to the outcome of the assessment. If successful, credit is recorded on your college transcript, but is not computed into a G.P.A.
