Overdose America

This course is designed for those wishing to learn about and discuss the increasing problem of overdose in America. The course will include a discussion of the overdose epidemic, current national trends, the symptoms and physical responses of overdose, various types of overdose, prescription drug abuse, intervention methods and the impact on society.
Course Objectives
In this course, the student will:
- Understand the scope of the overdose epidemic and current national trends
- Recognize the various types of overdose
- Describe the stages of drug use as well as the symptoms and physical responses of overdose
- Understand the prevalence of, and issues surrounding prescription drug abuse
- Recognize the need to respond effectively and safely when overdose is suspected
- Discuss initial intervention strategies for substance abuse or addiction
- Understand the social, family and economical influences of drug abuse
Target Audience: Active military, active law enforcement, and criminal justice professionals
