Risk Management and Violence in Undercover Operations

Course #: MCD 0169

This course provides an overview of undercover violence and risk management techniques for narcotic officers. Officers encounter grave risks when participating in undercover operations both from suspects and even from their own forces. Poor planning and unforeseen circumstances can result in injuries from friendly fire by team members or others. Learn to mitigate risk in undercover operations by recognizing and mitigating seven critical factors and applying the Risk Matrix. Several scenarios are provided for practicing the concepts.

Course Objectives

In this course, the student will:

  • Identify and apply the seven critical factors for mitigating violence during undercover operations
  • Identify operational risks and take responsible measures to reduce or eliminate hazards
  • Include risk management and mitigation as an integral part of planning and executing every operation
  • Apply the Risk Matrix tool prior to, and during an operation

Target Audience: Active military, active law enforcement, and criminal justice professionals

Course Duration: 16 hours
