Clandestine Laboratory Recertification with Site Safety
Officer (SSO)
Course Length: 4 days (32 hours)

This course is designed to provide applications of Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement Team duties for those personnel who have completed the certification requirements set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration as outlined in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) and EPA 40 CFR 311. This course will provide several scenarios in which the students will operate under real life conditions to plan and work as a Clandestine Lab Enforcement Team member to investigate and process a clandestine lab site. This course will also meet the recommended guidelines set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for annual
eight-hour refresher training and Site Safety Officer Training.
Mandatory Prerequisite:
All students must be Clandestine Laboratory Certified (as outlined in OSHA 1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) and must bring their own gear (to be specified). Some must bring vehicles.
Course Objectives
- Describe the latest clandestine drug lab trends and new developments.
- Meet the recommended guidelines set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for annual
eight-hour refresher training as outlined in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) and EPA 40 CFR 311.
- Meet the recommended guidelines set by the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration for Site Safety Officer training as outlined in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER).
- Discuss issues of operational planning for investigating a clandestine lab site to include: recognizing and using inter-agency resources, site safety, crime scene identification, conducting site assessment, processing a clandestine laboratory site, developing team building/unity within clandestine lab investigative unit, and effecting criminal arrest.
- Prepare a Criminal Affidavit for a Search Warrant to be executed on a residential clandestine drug lab site.
- Work as a Clandestine Lab Enforcement Team member to investigate and process a mobile clandestine drug lab, a clandestine drug lab dump site, and a residential clandestine laboratory to include: scene processing, proper collection of chemical evidence, identification of potential criminal charges, criminal interviews, lab dismantling, disposal of hazardous waste, decontamination, and submission of evidence to lab(s).
